Today the Ligurian coastline that stretches from Andora to Ventimiglia is better known as the \u201cRiviera dei Fiori\u201d \u2013 The Flower Riviera. The seas facing the western Ligurian coast are still inhabited by whales and dolphins, among which are the fin whale, the second largest species on the planet; the sperm whale, the largest predator ever to have lived on earth; and 5 other regularly sighted cetacean species.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Every year in June,<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tethys.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tethys <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tethys.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ONLUS<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tethys.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Institut<\/a>e, with the technical organization of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sanremomarathon.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">San Remo Marathon<\/a>, will organize the SAN REMO HALF MARATHON \u2013 RUN FOR THE WHALES. This charity marathon will take place along the \u201cmost beautiful cycling and pedestrian path in Europe\u201d, which stretches for 24 km along the coast. A <strong>half marathon<\/strong> certified by FIDAL will see runners who come from all over the world racing from San Lorenzo al Mare to San Remo; a non-competitive <strong>10 km<\/strong> will allow aspiring runners to begin with a manageable distance; while those who are simply enthusiasts, children with their parents, grandparents and pet dogs can challenge themselves in a walk of about <strong>3 km<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In honour of its thirtieth anniversary, Tethys Research Institute will be the main organiser of the event. On top of carrying out research on cetaceans in the Ligurian sea for over a quarter of a century, Tethys was the first to propose the establishment of the <strong>Pelagos Sanctuary<\/strong> to the governments of Italy, France and the Principality of Monaco.<\/p>\n<p>It is an extraordinary heritage which unfortunately few know about. Le acque antistanti il Ponente ligure sono per\u00f2 ancora popolate dalle balene e per l\u2019esattezza dalla seconda specie pi\u00f9 grande al mondo, la balenottera comune, dal pi\u00f9 grande predatore mai esistito sulla Terra, il capodoglio, e da altre 5 specie di cetacei che vengono regolarmente avvistate.\r\n\r\n<strong>Sabato 18 giugno<\/strong>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tethys.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Istituto Tethys ONLUS<\/a>, con l'organizzazione tecnica di <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sanremomarathon.it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sanremo Marathon<\/a>, organizzeranno la SANREMO HALF MARATHON - RUN FOR THE WHALES, una charity marathon che si svolger\u00e0 sulla pista ciclo-pedonale \"pi\u00f9 bella d\u2019Europa\u201d, che si estende parallela al mare per 24 km. Una <strong>mezza maratona<\/strong> certificata FIDAL vedr\u00e0 runners provenienti da tutto il mondo\u00a0correre da San Lorenzo al Mare\u00a0fino a Sanremo; una <strong>10 km<\/strong> non competitiva permetter\u00e0 agli aspiranti runners di iniziare con una distanza abbordabile; semplici appassionati, bambini con genitori, nonni e cani al seguito potranno cimentarsi in una camminata di circa <strong>3\u00a0km<\/strong>.\r\n\r\nA organizzare la manifestazione, in occasione del suo trentesimo anniversario, sara l\u2019Istituto Tethys ONLUS, che da oltre un quarto di secolo conduce ricerche sui cetacei del Mar Ligure ed \u00e8 stato il primo a proporre l\u2019istituzione del <strong>Santuario Pelagos<\/strong> ai governi di Italia, Francia e Principato di Monaco.\r\n\r\nSi tratta di un patrimonio straordinario, che per\u00f2 sono in pochi a conoscere. La stragrande maggioranza degli italiani, infatti, \u00e8 all\u2019oscuro dell\u2019esistenza sia del Santuario, sia dei cetacei che lo popolano.\r\n\r\nL'elevata concentrazione di balene e delfini e la loro presenza durante tutto l'anno rappresenta inoltre un'importante risorsa, che aumenterebbe notevolmente l'attrattivit\u00e0 del territorio e, attraverso una fruizione sostenibile, porterebbe
